Education 350: Instruction 1-Individualization/Management
Course Description: Theory, research and practice of teaching at the junior high/middle school level; adapting instruction for individuals including learners with special needs. (Colorado State Course Catalog, under the "Education-General-EDUC" subpage, http://catalog.colostate.edu/general-catalog/courses-az/educ/)
This course allowed me to experience and step into the community of Lesher Middle School in Fort Collins, CO. I spent two hours, twice a week with a host teacher helping out with classroom management and teaching various mini lessons, as well as observing teaching strategies. Along with in-classroom experience, we met with our instructors afterwards. Here, we discussed everything from classroom routines we observed and can incorporate, to the right way to approach any student's personal situation. This class challenged me to derive a sense of authority and confidence while teaching.
